Kathmandu: China has expressed its commitment to work closely with Nepal’s new government to support the country’s economic transformation and development.
Speaking after the fourth session of the National People’s Congress, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming said Beijing is ready to strengthen bilateral ties and continue its role as a key development partner. He expressed confidence that a stable government over the next five years would help fulfill the Nepali people’s aspirations for prosperity and good governance.
China highlighted opportunities to expand cooperation in tourism, infrastructure, investment, and green development. Ambassador Zhang noted that improving tourism infrastructure could attract more Chinese visitors, while addressing policy and investment challenges would encourage Chinese investors in Nepal’s hospitality sector.
He also emphasized areas such as tea processing, technological collaboration, and green industries as potential drivers of Nepal’s economic growth. China reiterated its support for Nepal’s sovereignty and its readiness to implement agreements signed during the 2019 visit of Xi Jinping.
On regional issues, Zhang stated that the Kalapani matter is a bilateral issue between Nepal and India and should be resolved through dialogue.
China also expressed confidence in the Belt and Road Initiative as a key platform for enhancing Nepal’s connectivity, trade, and infrastructure. Projects such as the Trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network, proposed railways, and upgraded border points are expected to boost economic cooperation.
Diplomatic relations between Nepal and China, established in 1955, have grown into a multi-dimensional partnership based on mutual respect and cooperation. Both countries continue to work toward expanding trade, strengthening connectivity, and promoting sustainable development.
