Kathmandu: The Department of Immigration has reminded stakeholders about the government policy requiring mandatory trekking guides for travel in restricted areas across 13 districts of Nepal.
The Department stated that prior approval is required for trekking in these restricted zones. It has also made the permit system more efficient and user-friendly by introducing an online application process for foreign groups traveling through registered agencies.
Spokesperson and Director Tikaram Dhakal said that contact numbers have been arranged to assist service seekers facing technical issues while applying for trekking permits.
According to the policy, trekkers must apply through an agency, and a licensed guide must be assigned. The concerned agency will bear full responsibility for emergency rescue operations. A single trekking guide is allowed to lead up to seven trekkers per group.
Foreign nationals can also apply for trekking permits from their home countries using their visa application number. The Department believes this provision will help promote tourism, create employment, and ensure the safety and security of trekkers in Nepal.
