Kathmandu: As Nepal lights up to celebrate Tihar, also known as the Festival of Lights, embassies across Kathmandu have joined in the festive spirit by extending heartfelt greetings and participating in cultural rituals.
The five-day festival, observed from October 19 to October 23, is one of Nepal’s most vibrant celebrations, honoring animals, gods, and the sacred bond among family members. During this period, homes and streets across the country glow with lamps, candles, and decorative lights, resonating with music, dance, and joy.
Marking the occasion, the United Kingdom Embassy in Kathmandu shared a glimpse of its Kukur Puja celebration, a day dedicated to worshipping dogs. “Kukur Puja is an extraordinary ritual in Nepal. We worshipped some of these furry friends at the British Embassy Kathmandu,” the embassy wrote on its social media post, adding, “A day to honour ‘the best friends.’”
Similarly, the Australian Embassy conveyed its warm wishes to the Nepali people, stating, “Wishing everyone peace, prosperity, health, and happiness as we celebrate this wonderful festival.”
Joining in the celebration, the Embassy of Japan in Nepal shared, “The Embassy of Japan in Nepal wishes that the festival of lights brings joy, peace, and prosperity to all.”
Extending festive greetings, the Embassy of Sri Lanka wrote, “On this joyous occasion, the Embassy extends its heartfelt wishes to everyone. May this festival bring happiness, peace, and prosperity to everyone, and may the light of Deepavali continue to inspire hope and harmony in the year ahead.”
Meanwhile, the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, shared a cheerful message on social media, saying, “Wishing you a joyful bhailo and deusi evening. May your evening be filled with song, laughter, and togetherness.”
Also joining the festive chorus, the Embassy of Switzerland extended its warm wishes: “Best wishes of Tihar!”
