Embassy of India Launches 1st Indian Ambassador’s Cricket Tournament in Kathmandu

The opening ceremony was graced by Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, Joint Secretary (South Asia) of Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gahendra Rajbhandari, and British Ambassador to Nepal, Rob Fenn.

Kathmandu: The Embassy of India in Nepal kicked off the inaugural Indian Ambassador’s Cricket Tournament on Saturday at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground, marking a vibrant celebration of sports diplomacy and regional camaraderie.

The opening ceremony was graced by Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, Joint Secretary (South Asia) of Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gahendra Rajbhandari, and British Ambassador to Nepal, Rob Fenn. The dignitaries jointly inaugurated the four-day friendly tournament aimed at strengthening ties between diplomatic missions, institutions, and communities through the spirit of cricket.

Six teams are participating in the tournament: Embassy of India, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Nepal, British Embassy, the Federation of Nepali Journalists, a corporate team, and representatives of the Indian diaspora in Nepal.

The opening match featured a spirited contest between the MoFA and the Indian Embassy, setting an energetic tone for the days ahead. The tournament is expected to foster greater people-to-people connections, promote goodwill, and encourage sportsmanship among participants and spectators alike.
