Kathmandu: The Embassy of Nepal hosted a reception to observe the 263rd Nepali Army Day in Beiling on April 2. Major General Nie Songlai, Deputy Dean, Institute of War Studies, People’s Liberation Army Academy of Military Sciences had graced the event as the Guest of Honor.
Roshan Khanal, Charge d’affaires of the Embassy, in her welcome remarks, appreciated the contribution of Nepali Army not only in defending national sovereignty, but also in nation building particularly in the fields of infrastructure, relief and rescue operation during disasters and welfare activities. She highlighted the role of the Nepali Army in the UN Peacekeeping forces earning the global recognition as a promoter of world peace and security. She further underscored the importance of the military cooperation between Nepal and China based on the principles of friendship, mutual respect and shared prosperity.
Colonel Jayendra KC, Military Attache, elucidated the significance of the Nepal Army Day for honoring the courage, sacrifice and unwavering dedication of generations of Nepali soldiers for safeguarding national sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity for centuries. He stressed that Nepal has made tremendous contributions for global peace and multilateralism as the second largest troop contributing country. He further underlined the need of further advancing the longstanding military cooperation between Nepal and China in various activities including joint exercises, training, capacity building as well as rescue and relief operations.
The Embassy stated that the event was attended by approximately 150 participants including representatives from People’s Liberation Army of China, Defense Attachés, representatives of private sectors and the Nepali community in Beijing.
