Embassy of Nepal Marks 263rd Nepali Army Day in Washington, D.C.

Kathmandu: The Embassy of Nepal, Washington, D.C. hosted a reception on Wednesday evening in Washington, D.C. to commemorate the 263rd Nepali Army Day.

Welcoming the guests, Defense and Military Attaché Brigadier General Punna Prasad Dhakal reflected on the distinguished history of the Nepali Army and highlighted its professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding Nepal’s sovereignty. He underscored the Army’s vital contributions to national security and development, including its leading role in disaster response and humanitarian assistance.

Dr. Andrew Byers, Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Southeast Asia at the United States Department of Defense, attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest. He congratulated the Nepali Army on its 263rd anniversary and expressed appreciation for the long-standing partnership between the Nepali Army and the United States Army in training, disaster response, joint exercises, high-level engagements, and operational coordination.

In his remarks, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Sharad Raj Aran highlighted the pivotal role of the Nepali Army in safeguarding Nepal’s national interests. Reflecting on Nepal-U.S. relations, he thanked the U.S. Government for its continued support and acknowledged the Army’s contributions to international peace through United Nations peacekeeping missions. He also noted its role in nation-building efforts, including infrastructure development, environmental protection, and disaster response.

Approximately 200 guests attended the reception, including U.S. government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and military attachés, and representatives of the Nepali diaspora community. The event featured a ceremonial cake-cutting and a dinner showcasing traditional Nepali cuisine.
