Kathmandu: Everest Alliance Nepal (EAN) has announced the organisation of the second edition of the Everest Summiteers Summit 2026, scheduled to be held on May 27, 2026, in Kathmandu. The summit will be organised under the theme “Himalayan Innovation for a Sustainable Future.”
The announcement was made at a programme held at The Soaltee Kathmandu on December 28. The summit will commemorate the historic first ascent of Mount Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary, marking International Everest Day.
Building on the success of the inaugural summit held in 2025, the Everest Summiteers Summit 2026 will bring together Everest summiteers from Nepal and around the world, along with policymakers, mountaineering institutions, conservation leaders, tourism professionals, researchers and international partners. The summit aims to serve as a global platform for dialogue on mountaineering heritage, climber safety, climate change, sustainable tourism and the future of Himalayan expeditions.
The first Everest Summiteers Summit, held in 2025 under the theme “Honouring the Legends, Inspiring the Future,” was recognised as a landmark event in Nepal’s mountaineering calendar. It brought together global Everest summiteers, government representatives and international organisations, and contributed to policy-level discussions and international cooperation in mountain stewardship.
According to EAN, the 2026 summit will focus on recognising Everest summiteers, preserving first-hand summit narratives, promoting ethical and community-based mountain tourism, and addressing key challenges such as glacial retreat, waste management, climber welfare, expedition safety and policy reform.
The one-day summit will feature keynote speeches, expert panels and policy dialogues led by Everest summiteers and national and international experts. Participants are expected from Nepal and the global climbing and conservation community.
Everest Alliance Nepal has also opened registration for the Everest Summiteers Summit 2026 and invited government agencies, international organisations, mountaineering federations, academic institutions, sponsors, the climbing community and the media to participate.
Everest Alliance Nepal is a national platform of Everest summiteers and mountain professionals working to preserve the legacy of Mount Everest, promote climber safety, environmental sustainability and ethical mountaineering, and strengthen Nepal’s leadership in global mountain conservation.
