Mugu: A team of five foreign climbers, four Austrians and one German, has successfully made the first-ever ascent of Mt Koiki in Mugu district.

Located in Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality-2, Mt Koiki stands at an altitude of 6,169 meters above sea level. According to the Region Trek Company, which managed the expedition, the climbers reached the summit on October 20.

The team included Erwin Paul Weissmann, Valentin Mak, Sandro Franz Kanduth, and Gregor Pribernig from Austria, along with Stefan Lib Lind from Germany.

Local residents expressed joy over the successful expedition, hoping it would open new opportunities for mountain tourism in the remote Himalayan district. Karma Tamang, former chairperson of Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality-2, said the climb had revealed new tourism potential and urged the government and stakeholders to promote the area.

Austrian climber Sandro Kanduth (28) described the experience as memorable, saying, “This mountain is clean and peaceful. There is no waste, and the air is refreshing, I experienced such natural purity for the first time.”
