Foreign Minister Deuba Returns Home After Attending International Arbitration Convention in Hong Kong

KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba returned to Nepal last night following her participation in the signing ceremony of the Convention on the Establishment of an International Arbitration Organization, held in Hong Kong, Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China. The event was organized by the Chinese government.

Dr. Rana had departed for Hong Kong last Wednesday at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Nepal participated in the ceremony as an observer.

A total of 32 countries signed the Convention, while more than 50 countries and over 20 international organizations attended the signing ceremony. The newly established organization aims to provide a framework for resolving disputes through arbitration, including disputes between countries, between individuals or companies from different nations, and among private businesses operating internationally.

During her visit, Minister Rana held a bilateral meeting with her Chinese counterpart, Foreign Minister Wang Yi. She stated that the meeting focused on further strengthening the long-standing friendship between Nepal and China. Discussions included expanding economic, technical, and trade cooperation and ensuring the timely completion of Chinese-assisted development projects in Nepal.

Minister Rana also highlighted that 2025 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China. She noted that both sides agreed to commemorate the occasion through special events and to continue the momentum of high-level exchanges.

The Nepali delegation accompanying Minister Rana included Bhrigu Dhungana, Chief of the Northeast Asia Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Bindeshwor Prasad Lekhak, Consul General of Nepal in Hong Kong, and other representatives from the Ministry and the Consulate General.
