KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, held a bilateral meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Hong Kong today.

The meeting took place during Dr. Deuba’s visit to attend, as an observer, the signing ceremony of the Convention on the Establishment of the International Organization for Mediation, at the invitation of Minister Wang.

The two ministers discussed Nepal-China relations, mutual interests, and cooperation on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Minister Deuba highlighted Nepal’s strong commitment to its friendship with China and expressed gratitude for China’s continued support in Nepal’s economic and social development. She emphasized Nepal’s interest in further cooperation in areas such as economic development, technology transfer, and foreign investment.

Reaffirming Nepal’s commitment to the One-China policy, Dr. Deuba assured that Nepali territory would not be used against China. She also thanked China for its participation in the recently concluded Sagarmatha Dialogue and recalled the growing momentum of high-level exchanges, including Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s visit to China last December.

Similarly, as both nations mark 70 years of diplomatic relations this year, Dr. Deuba invited Foreign Minister Wang to visit Nepal. She also expressed Nepal’s readiness to welcome more Chinese tourists in 2025, which has been declared Visit Nepal Year.

Minister Wang congratulated Nepal on successfully hosting the Sagarmatha Dialogue and assured continued Chinese support in areas such as climate change mitigation and environmental protection. He emphasized China’s willingness to work with Nepal through the newly established mediation organization and reiterated the importance of implementing agreements reached during past bilateral visits.

Minister Wang accepted the invitation to visit Nepal and praised Dr. Deuba’s leadership in advancing Nepal’s diplomatic initiatives. He also extended a special invitation to Dr. Deuba to participate in the upcoming Global Women’s Leadership Forum.
