Kathmandu: Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal, Bala Nanda Sharma, visited the Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu on the third day of the condolence reception to pay his respects following the demise of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Begum Khaleda Zia.
The Foreign Minister was warmly received by Ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal, Md. Shafiqur Rahman, and officials of the Embassy. During the visit, Minister Sharma signed the condolence book and conveyed the Government and people of Nepal’s deep sympathies to the Government and people of Bangladesh.

In his remarks, the Foreign Minister expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia, describing her death as an irreparable loss to Bangladesh’s political life and to the wider South Asian region. He lauded her as a towering political figure whose contributions to the growth and development of Bangladesh were significant and enduring. He noted that her leadership and lifelong dedication to public service have left a lasting imprint on the nation’s history, and that she will be remembered with deep respect and admiration.
Minister Sharma also highlighted the late leader’s role in strengthening bilateral relations between Nepal and Bangladesh. “In Nepal, she will be remembered with gratitude for the significant role she played in enhancing Nepal–Bangladesh relations, particularly during her three tenures as Prime Minister,” he stated. He further acknowledged her as a steadfast advocate of regional cooperation and solidarity, committed to shared progress and prosperity in South Asia.
The visit underscored Nepal’s solidarity with Bangladesh at a moment of national mourning and reaffirmed the close and friendly ties between the two countries.
