Former Ambassador Dr. Karki Wins Election from Sankhuwasabha

Kathmandu: Former Ambassador Dr. Arjun Kumar Karki won the House of Representatives election from Sankhuwasabha district. Nepal’s former ambassador to USA, Dr. Karki, who was a candidate from CPN (UML), got 15,663 votes against his nearest rival, Mingma Sherpa of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP). Sherpa bagged 15,000 votes in the election.

Dr. Karki was the Executive President of Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN). He has also served as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Government of Nepal to the United States of America, Colombia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Guyana. Dr. Karki also served as the Global Coordinator of LDC Watch, Regional Coordinator of South Asia Alliance for Poverty Eradication (SAAPE) and the President of Bidushi Yogmaya Himalayan Ayurveda University. He is also a political analyst, researcher, and expert in governance and organizational development.


Dr. Karki has more than 30 years of experience in non-governmental organizations, international relations, diplomacy, climate change politics and diplomacy, international negotiations, peacebuilding, and development cooperation at the local, national, regional, and global levels. He holds a PhD in Development Studies from the United Kingdom, with a specialization in the Politics of Poverty.
