Kathmandu: The French Embassy in Nepal and the Alliance française de Katmandou have inaugurated a new cultural platform, the Micro-Folie, at the Alliance française in Pulchowk, Lalitpur, on November 1.
The Micro-Folie is a cultural policy initiative supported by the French Ministry of Culture and coordinated by La Villette in partnership with 12 major institutions: the Centre Pompidou, the Château de Versailles, the Cité de la Musique – Philharmonie de Paris, the Festival d’Avignon, the Institut du Monde Arabe, the Louvre, the Musée National Picasso-Paris, the Musée d’Orsay, the Musée du quai Branly-Jacques Chirac, the Opéra national de Paris, the Réunion des musées nationaux – Grand Palais, and Universcience.
The platform, designed as a multi-activity space, aims to make more than 5,000 works of art from numerous institutions and museums accessible to all audiences.
During the inauguration, Virginie Corteval, French Ambassador to Nepal, stated, “I am proud that France is part of this project, through which thousands of artworks, a shared heritage of humanity, are being showcased here in this enchanting city, Lalitpur. We hope that people of all generations in Nepal will take advantage of this unique opportunity to immerse themselves in art.”

Additionally, two weekly sessions will also be organised at the Alliance française for the public, free of charge, while targeting families, school groups, and various associations.
At the core of the Micro-Folie platform is its Digital Museum, a high-definition digital gallery bringing together thousands of artworks from various global institutions. Moreover, as the works are digitised in very high definition, they offer an original experience that encourages curiosity and learning.

Serving as the gateway to humanity’s diverse cultural and artistic heritage, this platform offers an extensive range of works spanning fine arts, architecture, scientific culture, and live performance.
This inauguration represents a significant milestone for TeamFrance in Nepal, advancing cultural and artistic exchange while offering free access to this virtual gallery for everyone.
