German Ambassador Attends National Workshop on Health Insurance Reform in Nepal

Kathmandu: The German Ambassador to Nepal, Udo Volz, attended the National Workshop on reforming Nepal’s Health Insurance, jointly organized by the Ministry of Health and Population and the Health Insurance Board, on January 16.

Addressing the workshop, Ambassador Volz said that a national health insurance programme is not only a necessity for the health sector but also the backbone of sustainable economic development.

“A National Health Insurance programme is not only a necessity for the health sector, it is also the backbone for sustainable economic development,” said the German Ambassador Volz.

Since 2013, German Development Cooperation has been working closely with the Government of Nepal to strengthen the National Health Insurance programme as a high-priority reform aimed at ensuring equitable access to quality health services for all, particularly vulnerable and marginalized populations, while preventing families from falling into poverty due to illness.

The German Embassy further stated in a social media post that a well-functioning health insurance system is not just a health intervention but an investment in people, productivity, and national resilience.
