Kathmandu: The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nepal hosted the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) Alumni Reception 2025 on December 19, bringing together Nepali alumni of the prestigious scholarship program.
Ambassador Tae-Young Park encouraged the alumni to actively pursue their careers across various fields and thanked them for their role in strengthening Nepal–Korea relations as a bridge between the two countries.
Ambassador Park noted that Nepali students currently rank fifth among international students in South Korea and expressed hope that the number and quality of Nepali students in Korea will continue to grow, contributing to Nepal’s development and bilateral relations.
He shared that around ten new undergraduate and graduate GKS awardees are selected from Nepal each year and that, as of 2025, a total of 137 Nepali students have received the scholarship. The Embassy has also produced and shared interview videos of GKS alumni on its Facebook page.
Speaking at the program, Dr. Ramakanta Lamichhane, President of the Nepal GKS Alumni, said the alumni association has been actively engaged in online and offline activities, including academic symposiums and support to underserved communities, with the backing of the Korean Embassy and the National Institute for International Education.
He added that the alumni plan to donate school supplies to three schools in the Pokhara area, benefiting 120 students.
