Kathmandu: The government has decided not to immediately appoint ambassadors to countries where the positions are currently vacant.
At a press conference held on October 30 to announce the Cabinet decisions, Minister for Communications and Information Technology and government spokesperson Jagadish Kharel said the interim government will not rush ambassadorial appointments.
“Ambassadors will not be appointed right away in countries with vacant positions. The embassies can be operated by second-tier staff, allowing the government to run its diplomatic agencies more economically,” Minister Kharel stated.
The Cabinet has also decided to amend Schedule 2 of the Act on Remuneration and Facilities of Federal Parliament Officials and Members (2073 BS), reducing the number of positions in the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the minister informed.
Similarly, the meeting approved an official state visit by President Ramchandra Paudel to Doha, Qatar, from November 3 to 6, to attend the Second World Summit for Social Development.
The Cabinet further decided to authorize access to data in the National Identity Management Information System through designated electronic systems, ensuring adherence to the security standards set by law. This includes services related to foreign employment, court case management, education, foreign study permits, local registration, citizenship, social security, disaster management, immigration, and inmate identification and information.
Additionally, the government has scheduled the election for the vacant National Assembly seat for November 25 (Sunday) and approved the Second Amendment of the Press and Publications Rules, 2082.
