Kathmandu: Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Rajendra Singh Bhandari has said the government is preparing to establish a special mechanism involving a team from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police to take action against wrongdoers in the foreign employment sector.
Speaking at a programme organized on the occasion of International Migration Day on December 18, Minister Bhandari said the mechanism would include members from anti-trafficking, crime control, and other relevant divisions.
“We will take action against anyone involved in fraud in the name of foreign employment. This initiative marks the beginning of good governance in the sector,” the minister said.
He added that the government is working to create a favourable environment for employment within the country and emphasized that skills acquired during foreign employment should be recognized and effectively utilized at home.
During the programme, the Nepal Labour Migration Report 2024, jointly published by the Ministry and the International Labour Organization (ILO), was launched.
On the occasion, ILO Country Director Numan Özcan stressed the need for collaboration to ensure the safety and security of migrant workers. He said the ILO remains committed to working with the government on policy reforms, labour rights, and migration management.
Similarly, the Ministry’s spokesperson Dr Krishna Hari Puskar said that while migration could not be completely prevented, adopting a strategy for its proper management was essential.
