In Honor of Newly Arrived Ambassadors & Spouses

Kathmandu: The Ambassadors Club, International Relations & Global Diplomacy Dialogue (IRGDD), and The Diplomat Nepal jointly organized a program titled “In Honor of Newly Arrived Ambassadors & Spouses” on October 31. The newly arrived ambassadors were Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Nepal, and Udo Eugen Volz, Ambassador of Germany to Nepal. The spouse of the German Ambassador, Marianne Beck-Volz, a yoga and language instructor, also recently arrived in Nepal.

At the program, the attendees included both Ambassadors, the Bangladeshi and German Ambassadors, Spouse Marianne Beck-Volz, President of the Ambassadors Club Nepal, IRGDD, and The Diplomat Nepal, Amb. Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal; Publisher of The Diplomat Nepal magazine and Co-founder of the Ambassadors Club and IRGDD, Bimal Dhakal; Secretary-General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Amb. Md. Golam Sarwar; Head of the Europe Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Nepal, Amb. Ganesh Prasad Dhakal; Head of the Central Asia, West Asia, and Africa Division at MoFA, Nepal, Amb. Ram Kaji Khadka; Country Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to Nepal and Bhutan, Ken Shimizu; Country Representative of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Nepal, Paulina Campos; and Vice President of the Ambassadors Club Nepal and IRGDD, Amb. Kali Prasad Pokhrel.

President Dr. Parajuli and Publisher Dhakal welcomed both ambassadors, their spouses, and other distinguished guests at the ceremony. Amb. Dr. Parajuli said, “This evening’s dinner is hosted under the banner of the Ambassadors Club and IRGDD, together with The Diplomat Nepal—a collective vision my husband, Mr. Bimal Dhakal, and I founded to strengthen diplomacy, dialogue, and Nepal’s global engagement.”

She further stated that her organizations aim to elevate Nepal’s global role in sustainable development, peace promotion, and multilateral cooperation, with a vision of empowering small states, women, and youth through diplomacy. “Together, three initiatives reflect our deep belief that diplomacy is not limited to formal meetings; it is a bridge of trust, culture, and human connection,” she added. President Dr Parajuli also highlighted relations and further cooperation between Nepal and Bangladesh, as well as between Nepal and Germany, during her remarks. 

Bangladeshi Ambassador Rahman shared that Nepal is his first ambassadorial assignment, describing it as “the most desired posting for any foreign service officer.” He pledged to deepen bilateral ties through enhanced business, cultural, and academic exchanges, and thanked the organizers for advancing Track II diplomacy.

German Ambassador Volz praised Nepal’s hospitality and longstanding ties with Germany, noting, “Nepal is extraordinarily welcoming, and tonight is proof of that. The Ambassadors Club is a beautiful innovation that strengthens our community and fosters trust and cultural connection.” During the program, Nepal’s popular Shur Shudha Musical Band performed.
