India Celebrates Golden Jubilee Scholarship Day in Kathmandu

Kathmandu: The Embassy of India in Nepal celebrated the 24th Golden Jubilee Scholarship Day on March 20, with the participation of 200 Nepali students selected for the 2025–26 scholarship.

The event was attended by several academic leaders, including Vice Chancellors from institutions such as Kathmandu University, Rajarshi Janak University, Purbanchal University, Mid-Western University Nepal, B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Lumbini Technological University, and Pokhara University, along with other education officials.

During the programme, Ambassador of India to Nepal Naveen Srivastava awarded the Ambassador’s Golden Jubilee Scholarship Roll of Honour to outstanding students.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Srivastava congratulated the scholarship recipients and highlighted new initiatives such as the India–Nepal Start-up Partnership Network (IN-SPAN) to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among youth in both countries.

Launched in 2002, the Golden Jubilee Scholarship has benefited over 3,700 Nepali students, with 200 scholarships awarded annually. This year’s recipients come from 75 districts, with around 40 percent being girls, including differently-abled students.

The Government of India provides around 1,500 scholarships each year to Nepali students across various fields, and more than 40,000 students have benefited since 2001.

Officials said such educational initiatives continue to strengthen people-to-people ties and long-standing relations between Nepal and India.
