Kathmandu: The first tranche of election-related assistance from India was formally handed over to Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Home Affairs on January 20, 2026.
At the ceremony, the Charge d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Dr. Rakesh Pandey, handed over more than 60 double-cab pickup vehicles along with other logistical supplies. The assistance forms part of the support requested by the Government of Nepal for preparations for the upcoming elections.

Moreover, Home Minister Aryal expressed gratitude to the Government and people of India for the support and appreciated the deep and comprehensive ties between the two neighboring countries.
India has been providing election-related assistance to Nepal since 2008 at the request of the Government of Nepal, including the gifting of around 2,400 vehicles to various ministries, departments, and the Election Commission. For the forthcoming elections, India has committed to providing about 650 vehicles, which will be delivered in phases over the coming weeks. Such continued cooperation reflects the strong development partnership and mutual trust between Nepal and India.
