India Hands Over Newly Built School Infrastructure in Achham Under HICDP Initiative

The school building was constructed with financial assistance from the Government of India at a total cost of Rs 32.40 million.

KATHMANDU: The newly constructed school building of Shree Mahendra Secondary School in Sanfebagar Municipality, Achham was formally handed over on Saturday to the school management under the Government of India’s High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) initiative.

The handover ceremony was jointly officiated by Lalit Bahadur Kunwar, Chief of the District Coordination Committee (DCC) Achham; Rajendra Bahadur Kunwar, Mayor of Sanfebagar Municipality; and Suman Shekhar, First Secretary at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu. The event was attended by political representatives, government officials, educators, students, and their families, underscoring the strong community engagement in the development process.

The school building has been constructed with financial assistance from the Government of India at a total cost of Rs 32.40 million. The new infrastructure includes classrooms, a science laboratory, computer lab, staff and administrative rooms, a library, accounts section, and separate toilets for boys and girls. The grant also covered the procurement of furniture and computers, enhancing the overall academic environment.

Established in 1960, Shree Mahendra Secondary School currently offers classes from Nursery to Grade 12 and serves over 400 students, with girls accounting for 65% of the student population.

Local authorities and stakeholders expressed their appreciation for India’s continued developmental support, emphasizing that the new school building will significantly improve educational facilities and contribute to better learning outcomes in the region.
