Kathmandu: Speaker Devraj Ghimire announced that Nepal will host an international conference on climate change on August 18–19 to draw global attention to the country’s climate challenges.
He shared the information during a press briefing at Tribhuvan International Airport after returning from Switzerland, where he attended the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliaments in Geneva from July 30 to August 2.
Speaker Ghimire also informed that preparations are underway to organize a similar conference focused on climate change in the Asia-Pacific region on January 30–31 next year. He said participants in Geneva were informed of Nepali lawmakers’ readiness to host the upcoming events.
During his visit, Ghimire held bilateral meetings with parliamentary leaders from the UK, Switzerland, Malta, Israel, and Bhutan.
