Kathmandu: The International Relations & Global Diplomacy Dialogue (IRGDD), under the leadership of its President Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, has revived its research focus on aquaculture, fisheries development and sustainable aquatic-resource management in Nepal.
The initiative seeks to strengthen evidence-based research on Nepal’s fisheries sector, with particular attention to aquaculture systems, aquatic ecosystems, fish-seed and hatchery development, feed systems, climate resilience, value-chain development and the economic potential of fisheries for local communities.
As part of this renewed research engagement, IRGDD has initiated technical dialogue with Mr. Subash Kumar Jha of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, alongside relevant stakeholders and experts.
The research aims to identify structural gaps and opportunities in Nepal’s fisheries sector and contribute policy-oriented research, technical knowledge and practical recommendations for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture development.
Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal, President of IRGDD, stated:
“Nepal has considerable potential in fisheries and aquaculture. Our objective is to strengthen the knowledge base and policy dialogue needed to transform this potential into a sustainable, climate-resilient and economically productive sector.”
The revived research stream forms part of IRGDD’s broader commitment to sustainable development, climate resilience, natural-resource management and evidence-based policy dialogue in Nepal.
