Journalist Jagdishor Panday Appointed Press Adviser to Foreign Minister

Kathmandu: Journalist Jagdishor Panday has been appointed Press Adviser to Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal.

In accordance with the decision of the Government of Nepal’s Council of Ministers dated 15 April 2026, Foreign Minister Khanal appointed Panday as Press Adviser with equivalent a Special Class (Secretary-level) official, an official of the ministry shared.

Mr. Panday served as the Founding Editor of The Diplomat Nepal, an English-language magazine dedicated to diplomacy and foreign affairs. Previously, he held senior editorial and reporting positions at the Kantipur Daily and The Himalayan Times, where he covered foreign policy, defense, political issues, international development, and sports.

Panday has played a leading role in fostering informed discussions on Nepal’s international relations and global engagement.

Panday possesses significant firsthand experience in multilateral diplomacy. As a two-time recipient of the prestigious Reham Al-Farra Memorial Journalism Fellowship (RAF) of the United Nations, he reported on the 76th and 78th Sessions of the United Nations General Assembly and gained in-depth exposure to the workings of the United Nations, international negotiations, and global governance. He has also reported from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), documenting Nepal’s contributions to international peacekeeping efforts.

Academically, Panday holds a Master’s Degree in English Literature and a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature, Mass Communication and Journalism from Tribhuvan University. He further strengthened his international perspective through postgraduate studies at the Asian College of Journalism in India and specialized training at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication.

With a strong understanding of diplomacy, international organizations, regional geopolitics, strategic communication, and Nepal’s foreign policy priorities, Panday brings a unique combination of analytical expertise, international exposure, public communication skills, and commitment to national interests. His extensive engagement with diplomatic communities, international institutions, policymakers, and global forums positions him as a capable representative of Nepal and a strong candidate for ambassadorial responsibilities.
