Kathmandu: The Friends of Silk Road Club–Nepal successfully organized an academic lecture on April 13 in Tangal, Kathmandu, focused on understanding the political system, party governance, and development path of China’s modernization.
The session, titled “Understanding Chinese Modernization: Political System, Party Governance, and Development Path,” featured Professor Zhang Jiadong, Director of the Center for South Asian Studies at Fudan University, as the keynote speaker. The event drew more than 50 participants, including students, academicians, policy experts, and professionals, fostering meaningful dialogue on China’s governance model and development trajectory.
In his lecture, Professor Zhang outlined the defining features of Chinese modernization, emphasizing its foundation in gradual economic reform, strong institutional capacity, and centralized political leadership under the Communist Party of China. He detailed how this model has contributed to rapid economic growth, poverty alleviation, and technological advancement over the past four decades.
The discussion also covered key aspects of China’s foreign policy, including the concept of building a “community with a shared future for mankind” and the principles of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness that guide China’s neighborhood diplomacy.
Special attention was given to China–Nepal relations, with Professor Zhang underscoring the longstanding historical ties, expanding economic cooperation, and growing people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. He noted that ongoing collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative presents new opportunities for regional connectivity and development.
The program included an interactive question-and-answer session, during which participants engaged in thoughtful discussions on governance models, economic sustainability, and Nepal’s evolving engagement with China.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the valuable insights shared by the speaker and the active participation of attendees. This program is part of the Friends of Silk Road Club–Nepal’s ongoing efforts to promote informed dialogue, academic exchange, and greater understanding of regional and global developments.
