Kathmandu Hosts Reception to Celebrate 40 Years of SAARC Charter

Kathmandu: On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the SAARC Charter, Secretary General Ambassador Md. Golam Sarwar and Taslima Sarwar hosted a diplomatic reception in Kathmandu on December 9.

The event was graced by Nepal’s Vice President, Ramsahay Prasad Yadav, as Chief Guest and attended by dignitaries, diplomats, business and civil society representatives, and members of the media.

Heads of State and Foreign Ministers of SAARC member countries issued dedicatory messages highlighting the importance of regional cooperation for peace, prosperity, and shared development in South Asia.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Sarwar reflected on SAARC’s journey over the past 40 years, noting its progress in institutional strengthening, program implementation, and global outreach. He also expressed gratitude to member states, observer states, development partners, and diplomatic missions for their continued support.

SAARC was founded on 8 December 1985 at the First Summit in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and 8 December is now observed annually as SAARC Charter Day across the region.
