Kathmandu: Shisir Khanal formally assumed office as the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal today. The appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter in the Ministry’s efforts to strengthen Nepal’s diplomatic engagement and enhance citizen services abroad.

Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, along with senior officials of the Ministry, warmly welcomed the Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, the Foreign Secretary briefed Minister Khanal on the ongoing work and initiatives of the Ministry and reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry’s team to support his leadership in fulfilling Nepal’s diplomatic priorities.

Upon assuming office, Minister Khanal announced a key decision to expand the online system of the Department of Consular Services. This initiative aims to make consular services more efficient, accessible, and responsive to the needs of Nepali citizens both at home and abroad.
Highlighting the importance of innovation in government service delivery, the Minister also instructed the Ministry team to adopt more creative and impactful approaches in their work, aligning their efforts with the aspirations and expectations of the people.
Minister Khanal’s leadership is expected to bring renewed focus on modernizing Nepal’s foreign service and strengthening the Ministry’s capacity to respond to global challenges while ensuring citizen-centric service delivery.
