Morang: Koshi Province Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki met Israeli Ambassador to Nepal Shmulik Ari Bass on August 27, 2025, at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers in Biratnagar.
During the meeting, CM Karki highlighted the longstanding friendship between Nepal and Israel and stressed the need to further strengthen cooperation in agriculture, labor, health, and employment. He said Nepalis working as agricultural workers and caregivers in Israel have built strong ties and emphasized making such collaboration more systematic.
Karki noted that Israel’s expertise in innovation and technology transfer could be highly beneficial for Nepal. Praising Israel’s success in modern agriculture, he said Koshi Province is eager to collaborate, given its potential for agricultural production. He also shared the province’s plan to attract youth to agriculture through interest subsidies and entrepreneurship development, adding that training and education would help boost economic growth.
On the occasion, CM Karki also urged Ambassador Bass to take initiatives for the release of Bipin Joshi, a Nepali youth held by Hamas. He further called for cooperation with local academic institutions such as Manmohan Technical University in Morang and Gauradaha Agricultural Campus in Jhapa.
Ambassador Bass, for his part, said Nepal and Israel enjoy cordial relations dating back to the time of Prime Minister B.P. Koirala. He noted opportunities in Israel’s caregiving and agricultural sectors and emphasized the importance of skill development. Citing Israel’s agricultural success despite a small farming population, he encouraged Nepal to adopt new technologies to achieve progress.
