Malaysian Embassy Hosts Trade Seminar on Business Opportunities in Kathmandu

Kathmandu: The Malaysian Embassy organized a trade seminar titled “Trade Opportunities in Malaysia,” aimed at briefing participants on current trade and investment prospects in Malaysia, at the Conference Hall of Khabarhub, Kathmandu, on December 18.

The conference was hosted by the Charge d’Affaires a.i. of Malaysia to Nepal, Mohd Firdaus Bin Azman. Followed by the presentations made by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) through an online platform.

The Seminar was attended by Muhd Shahrulmiza Zakaria, Trade Commissioner of the Malaysian Trade Promotion Agency (MATRADE), and Shazri Hidayat bin Abd Shakor, Consul of the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA), who followed their presentation via an online call. Moreover, investors, stakeholders, and representatives from various organizations in Nepal joined and interacted at the conference.

The presentations highlighted Malaysia’s global market position, ongoing trade and cooperation between Malaysia and Nepal, and potential areas for future investment, as well as trade in goods and services.

Moreover, the seminar focused on providing practical information on doing business in Malaysia and identifying opportunities for investment and trade. Exploring new trade avenues and expanding existing trade relations were key priorities of the seminar.

“The purpose of having this seminar for today is basically to provide information on how to do business in Malaysia and what are the opportunities of having trade relations,” said the Malaysian Charge d’Affaires a.i. while addressing the seminar. “Malaysia has had a very positive trade reports when countries are doing business. In 2024-2025, whereby the World Competitiveness Ranking (WCR), Malaysia generally jumped to the 11th spot to rank 23rd across 69 economies, its best performance since 2020.”

Nepal and Malaysia established diplomatic relations on January 1, 1960. Trade ties between the two countries have remained stable, and the seminar was seen as an important platform for investors and exporters to explore expanded trade opportunities.
