Minister Calls for Postal Service Agreements with Labour Destination Countries

Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has emphasized the need for Nepal to establish postal service agreements with all countries where it has signed labour pacts.

Speaking at the annual progress review meeting of the Department of Postal Services on September 2, 2025, the Minister highlighted the potential to commercialize postal services through parcel delivery and called for making such services more reliable and efficient for Nepalis abroad.

He also directed local governments to adopt digital systems and transition into “smart post offices” by maximizing the use of information technology. As the government spokesperson, Gurung assured support for developing the necessary infrastructure to make postal services effective.

On the occasion, Communications Ministry Secretary Radhika Aryal said relevant acts and laws are being revised to modernize the postal sector and pledged to address administrative and managerial hurdles.

Department Director General Mana Maya Bhattarai stated that efforts are underway to make postal services smarter, while Director Dhurba Raj Acharya briefed on the Department’s activities.
