Kathmandu: The Department of Consular Services under Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has begun collecting information from Nepali students who were allegedly scammed by educational institutions in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The move follows reports that students, who paid large sums to obtain university degrees from Nepal, were sent to universities, colleges, and vocational training centers operating in UAE’s “free zones” under false promises. Many of these institutions reportedly lack physical infrastructure, conduct classes in rented apartments or online, and fail to provide the services they promised.
Students who experienced these issues; whether currently in the UAE or having returned to Nepal without completing their courses, or unable to find employment as promised, have been urged to submit their details. Complaints have included false claims of foreign university affiliations and misleading information from educational counseling centers in Nepal.
Affected students are requested to fill out the online form via the provided QR code or link within 15 days to enable the Ministry to take necessary action.
