Kathmandu: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a briefing session on November 23 for the Honorary Consuls General and Honorary Consuls based in Kathmandu.
Addressing the gathering, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai outlined the Government of Nepal’s key priorities and emphasized the need to further strengthen economic relations with the countries the Consuls represent. He highlighted that Nepal’s stable and encouraging macroeconomic indicators demonstrate an economy that is open, resilient, and ready for deeper partnerships.
Foreign Secretary Rai briefed the Consular Corps on recent political developments, noting that Nepal has returned to stability under the leadership of Prime Minister Sushila Karki, with general elections scheduled for 5 March 2026. He reiterated that Nepal is open to investment, tourism, innovation, and broader international cooperation, emphasizing the government’s commitment to free, fair and timely elections.
He urged the Honorary Consuls to help promote Nepal’s priorities in investment, trade, tourism, cultural exchanges and people-to-people linkages. Key sectors such as clean energy, infrastructure, information technology, agriculture modernization and manufacturing were highlighted as areas of strong potential for foreign investment.
Speaking on behalf of the Honorary Consular Corps–Nepal, Dean Bhola Bikram Thapa reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to work closely with the Government of Nepal, particularly in promoting cooperation in investment, trade and tourism.
The Ministry expressed appreciation for the Consuls’ continued support and encouraged them to amplify Nepal’s message of stability, confidence and readiness for deeper international partnerships.
