Kathmandu: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) released a statement stating that they are closely monitoring the situation following the news of an avalanche on Mt. Broad Peak.
The Nepal Embassy in Islamabad is coordinating with all relevant authorities of Pakistan including the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) to facilitate the swift and safe rescue of all affected mountaineers. We have been informed by the Pakistani authorities that the search and rescue operations are underway.
According to the information received by the Embassy, the expedition team to Mt. Broad Peak led by veteran climber Nirmal Purja “Nims Dai” includes Pur Bahadur Gurung “Yukta”, Kili Pemba Sherpa “Kilu”, Nima Sherpa, Nawang Thindu Sherpa and Gyalu Sherpa as well as Nadhira Ahmed Abdullah Al Harthy (Oman), Sohail Sakhi (Pakistan), Wang Zhong (China) and Mallory Geis (USA).
The Ministry has received assurances from the Pakistani authorities that they would mobilize all available resources for timely search and rescue operations.
