Kathmandu: Former Deputy Prime Minister and senior leader of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Narayan Kaji Shrestha, has returned to Nepal after completing a two-week visit to the United States.
Shrestha had departed for the U.S. from Kathmandu on July 4. Sharing the details about the visit via Facebook, he stated that, except for India, this was his first international trip in a personal capacity.
“The main purpose was to meet and hold discussions with Nepali friends, brothers, and sisters residing in the United States,” Shrestha wrote. “I have concluded that this visit has been meaningful and productive.”
During the visit, he traveled to various cities across approximately 10 U.S. states. In each location, welcome and interaction programs were organized by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), local Nepali organizations, and community members.
In Virginia, he participated in a roundtable discussion organized primarily by NRNA America and the Nepali intellectual community. The event featured active participation from Nepali scientists, researchers, professors, doctors, engineers, and intellectuals working at national and international levels.
Shrestha stated that these programs included serious dialogue on Nepal’s development, the utilization of foreign experience, knowledge, skills, and capital, the relevance of non-resident Nepali citizenship, and maintaining a continuous connection with the motherland.
Expressing gratitude to the Nepali community in the U.S., he said he was deeply inspired by the goodwill and respect shown to him, regardless of ideological or political differences.
“Your goodwill and trust have added energy to my commitment to work in the interest of the country and the people,” Shrestha stated. “I want to assure you that I will actively pursue the timely implementation of the commitments I have made.”
