Kathmandu: Nepal has been elected to the UN Human Rights Council by the UN General Assembly for the 2027–2029 term. Securing 173 out of 180 votes, Nepal received the highest number of votes in its group.
H.E. Lok Bahadur Thapa, permanent representative of Nepal to the United Nations, extended profound appreciation and gratitude to all UN Member States for their enduring trust and confidence placed in Nepal’s steadfast commitment to advancing multilateralism, human rights, international law and a rules-based international system with the UN at its core.
“We look forward to working closely with UN membership and all partners for safeguarding human dignity, inclusion, social justice and equitable development for all, leaving no one behind,” Thapa said.
Nepal has served two consecutive terms on the Human Rights Council, from 2018 to 2023 in the past.
