Nepal Embassy in Brussels Marks World Meditation Day

Kathmandu: The Embassy of Nepal in Brussels organized a meditation programme on World Meditation Day to mark the second observance of the day, with the participation of members of the Nepali diaspora in Belgium.

The programme began with welcome remarks by Ambassador Sewa Lamsal, Ambassador of Nepal to the BENELUX countries. She highlighted the importance of meditation in focusing the mind on the present moment and reconnecting individuals with their inner selves.

Ambassador Lamsal emphasized that meditation is an ancient practice deeply rooted in Nepal’s civilization. She described Nepal as the Land of Meditation (Tapobhumi), recalling figures such as Lord Shiva, Gautam Buddha, and Maharshi Janak, who laid the foundations of meditation and spiritual wisdom. She noted that meditation remains central to spiritual practices across faiths, including Hinduism and Buddhism.

She also highlighted Nepal’s role in promoting World Meditation Day at the United Nations and referred to the World Health Organization’s recognition of mindfulness and meditation as effective tools for reducing stress and improving mental health. The Ambassador encouraged participants to integrate meditation into their daily lives amid global conflicts and tensions.

The programme concluded with a guided meditation session. Members of the Nepali community in Belgium and Embassy officials attended the event.
