Kathmandu: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of Nepal has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic air crash in Dhaka, Bangladesh, that claimed the lives of at least 27 people, including many students.
In an official statement, MoFA said, “We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic air crash in Dhaka, which claimed many precious lives, including those of students. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and all those affected. We wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”
The ministry also conveyed Nepal’s solidarity with the people and the Government of Bangladesh during this difficult time.
According to Bangladeshi officials, the crash occurred Monday afternoon, when a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed into a school building in Dhaka. The impact caused a major fire, leaving the two-story building smoldering.
Among the dead were the pilot and 26 others, most of them students. At least 171 people were rescued from the scene, many of them suffering from burns. Rescue operations involved helicopters, ambulances, rickshaws, and even parents and firefighters carrying victims to safety.
