Kathmandu: The Consul-General of Nepal for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Dr. Bindeswar Prasad Lekhak, met with the Secretary for Security of HKSAR, Tang Ping-Keung, at his office.
During the meeting, Consul-General Dr. Lekhak highlighted the historic contribution of the Nepali community in Hong Kong. He congratulated the Secretary on the successful implementation of mainland travel permits for non-Chinese Hong Kong residents and thanked the authorities for their cooperation in addressing deception scams targeting the local Nepali community.
He also raised the issue of visa relaxation for Nepali workers and requested a waiver of transit visas for Nepali passengers travelling via Hong Kong International Airport.
Secretary Tang welcomed Dr. Lekhak and briefed him on the local law-and-order situation, noting that Hong Kong ranks among the safest cities globally.
Tang further commended the Nepali community for adhering to local laws and underscored the government’s policy to diversify its workforce, encouraging more Nepalis to apply for government jobs. On the issue of transit visas, the Secretary assured that the request would be reviewed soon.
Both sides agreed to continue working closely on matters related to labour exchanges and immigration issues. Secretary Tang was joined at the meeting by Patrick Li, Permanent Secretary for Security; Michael Cheuk, Under Secretary for Security; Jack Ho, Administrative Assistant to the Secretary for Security; and Adley Sham, Assistant Secretary (Security) Liaison.
