Ranjha (Banke): Oncologists from Nepal and India shared their experiences in cancer treatment and discussed the use of new medical technologies during an educational programme held in Nepalgunj.
The Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme titled “Recent Updates in Oncology” was organized by Max Super Speciality Hospital Lucknow in collaboration with the Nepal Medical Association Bheri Chapter.
During the event, experts presented on cancer detection, surgical techniques and modern treatment methods.
At the programme, Dr Shashwat Verma, Director of Nuclear Medicine at Max Super Speciality Hospital, delivered a presentation on “PET-CT as a Precision Tool in Patient Care,” highlighting the role of advanced imaging technology in the early detection and staging of cancer.
Similarly, Dr Rahul Yadav, Director of Urology, Kidney Transplant and Robotic Uro-Oncology at the hospital, spoke on robotic-assisted surgery in treating complex urological cancers, noting that the technology has made treatment safer and more effective.
In another session, Dr Shashank Chaudhary, Principal Consultant and specialist in Surgical Oncology and Robotic Surgery, explained the benefits of minimally invasive robotic surgery, which helps patients recover faster.
Representing Nepal, Dr Mukesh Yadav, Head of the Clinical Oncology Department at Sushil Koirala Prakhar Cancer Hospital in Khajura, Banke, presented on the role of radiotherapy in cancer care, emphasizing the importance of modern radiation therapy in treating different types of cancer.
Doctors noted that Lucknow is around a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Nepalgunj, making it convenient for patients from western Nepal to seek advanced medical treatment there.
