Nepal, India Sign Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement on Criminal Matters

Kathmandu: Nepal and India have signed an agreement on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, paving the way for closer judicial cooperation between the two countries.

The agreement was signed by Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Binod Kumar Bhattarai, on behalf of the Government of Nepal, and Ambassador of India to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, representing the Government of India.

According to Ministry Spokesperson Dal Bahadur Adhikari, the agreement was signed in line with the Cabinet decision of October 16, 2025, in the presence of the Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

The agreement will facilitate cooperation between the two countries in the collection and exchange of evidence during investigation, prosecution, and judicial proceedings in criminal cases. It is expected to strengthen institutional coordination and promote the rule of law in both nations.

The Ministry stated that the agreement would serve as a milestone in addressing fiduciary crimes in Nepal and make investigation, prosecution, and justice delivery more effective. It is also expected to support mutual assessments related to the prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing.

The signing ceremony was attended by Ministry Secretary Parashwor Dhungana and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
