Kathmandu: The Epidemiology and Disease Control Division of the Ministry of Health and Population launched a Mass Drug Administration (MDA) campaign against Lymphatic Filariasis (LF) on November 23 in six municipalities of Kapilvastu District.
Nepal has already interrupted LF transmission in 56 of the 64 endemic districts. However, some remaining pockets including areas of Kapilvastu, still require focused efforts. The new campaign, supported by WHO, aims to reach nearly 400,000 people in the district to further strengthen national elimination efforts.
The launch event in Taulihawa was inaugurated by the Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Sudha Sharma Gautam, and chaired by the Chief of the District Coordination Committee. Federal, provincial and local representatives, health officials, security personnel, WHO Nepal, and partner organizations also participated.
During the program, the Minister publicly took the medicine to encourage community participation and highlight its safety. Nepal aims to eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis as a public health problem by 2030.
