Nepal Marks Christmas with Public Holiday and Celebrations

Kathmandu: The Christian community is celebrating Christmas Day today, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. The day is observed in remembrance of Christ’s message of hope, love, peace, and salvation.

According to C.B. Gahatraj, Chairman of the Nepal Christian Federation, Christmas is also known as the day of love, peace, and liberation. He said the Federation has been celebrating Christmas in Nepal with fanfare since 2063 BS.

A Christmas Festival 2025 is being organized in Kathmandu today with the participation of government representatives, dignitaries, and human rights defenders. The government has declared a public holiday on the occasion.

Special Christmas gatherings are being held in areas such as Thamel, Boudha, Pokhara, and Sauraha. The Federation claims there are around 3 million Christians and more than 13,000 churches across Nepal.
