Kathmandu: A Nepali delegation led by Additional Inspector General (AIG) Rajan Adhikari departed for Morocco on November 22 to participate in the 93rd General Assembly of INTERPOL. The event, organized by the INTERPOL Secretariat, will be held in Marrakech from November 24 to 27.
AIG Adhikari is accompanied by Superintendent of Police Rupesh Khadka, head of the INTERPOL section, according to the Police Headquarters. The four-day assembly will bring together representatives from all 196 INTERPOL member countries to discuss key policy matters aimed at preventing and reducing international crime.
The session will also include elections for several vacant positions within INTERPOL’s Executive Committee. Nepal is expected to take part in the voting process.
The General Assembly will deliberate on a wide range of issues, including combating transnational organized crime, dismantling scam networks, expanding global policing capabilities, promoting women in policing, reviewing the Silver Notice pilot project, and encouraging the ratification of the UN Convention Against Cybercrime. The programme of activities, strategic framework, and budget of INTERPOL will also be approved during the meeting.
During the visit, the Nepali delegation plans courtesy meetings with INTERPOL’s President and Secretary General, as well as discussions with representatives from Qatar, India, France, Japan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. Bilateral meetings aimed at enhancing international police cooperation are also scheduled.
