Nepal Prepares 7th National Biodiversity Report with Broad Stakeholder Consultation

Kathmandu: The United Nations Development Programme in Nepal has announced that the Ministry of Forests and Environment, with support from UNDP’s Umbrella Project and the Global Environment Facility, has drafted Nepal’s 7th National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

As a Party to the CBD, Nepal is preparing to submit the report by February 28, 2026. To ensure inclusiveness and national ownership, a broad stakeholder consultation was organized for validation and feedback. The event saw active participation from Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, government agencies, civil society, academia, and development partners.

The consultation marked a significant step toward finalizing the report, reinforcing Nepal’s collective commitment to protecting biodiversity. Officials emphasized that the process aims to ensure national actions reflect shared priorities, local knowledge, and a coordinated approach to achieving the goals of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
