Nepal Sales Mission Held in Kolkata to Boost Tourism Cooperation with India

Kathmandu: The Nepal Sales Mission was successfully organised in Kolkata on January 30, 2026, bringing together key tourism stakeholders from Nepal and India to strengthen bilateral tourism cooperation and business partnerships.

The B2B networking event was jointly organised by the Consulate General of Nepal in Kolkata and the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), in collaboration with the Society of Travel Tour Operators Nepal and Buddha Air. Held at the Topaz Hall of Hotel Hindustan International, the event attracted around 200 participants, including leading travel and tour operators from West Bengal, tourism professionals, media representatives, and members of the diplomatic community.

Nineteen Nepali companies, including leading travel and tour operators and one hotel, participated in the sales mission, with a total of 25 delegates representing Nepal. The Nepal Tourism Board was represented by Senior Manager Surya Thapaliya and Senior Officer Jayshakti Sarraf, who engaged with Indian counterparts to promote Nepal as a diverse, year-round tourism destination.

The mission highlighted Nepal’s wide range of tourism offerings, including leisure travel, adventure tourism, pilgrimage circuits, cultural experiences, and emerging niche segments. Discussions focused on improving travel connectivity, strengthening trade partnerships, and increasing tourist flows from West Bengal to Nepal.

Organisers underlined the strategic importance of the Indian market, particularly eastern India, for Nepal’s tourism industry, citing strong cultural, historical, and people-to-people ties. The collaboration with Buddha Air highlighted the role of air connectivity, with the airline currently operating four weekly flights between Kathmandu and Kolkata.

The event received positive feedback, with productive B2B interactions and renewed interest in joint tour packages, promotional campaigns, and long-term collaborations. Media participation further enhanced the visibility of Nepal’s tourism offerings in the Indian market.

The successful sales mission marks a significant step in the Nepal Tourism Board’s efforts to strengthen regional tourism promotion and foster sustainable tourism growth between Nepal and India.
