Nepal Serves as Key G77 Negotiator in Major UN Digital Cooperation Review

Kathmandu: Nepal is playing a leading role as one of the G77 negotiators alongside Pakistan, the Philippines, Egypt, Iraq and Uganda representing 134 countries from the G77 and China in the UN’s once-a-decade review of global digital cooperation, known as the WSIS+20 Review, currently underway at UN Headquarters in New York.

The negotiations, which will conclude with the adoption of the WSIS+20 outcome document in mid-December, are considered one of the most significant UN processes shaping the future global digital architecture.

The WSIS+20 Review covers the full spectrum of the digital landscape, including connectivity, digital inclusion, artificial intelligence, data governance, capacity building, financing, digital public infrastructure, cybersecurity, human rights in digital spaces, and the broader digital economy.

Nepal’s active engagement in the process is seen as crucial, given the rapid expansion of digital and emerging technologies. As a key negotiator, Nepal aims to ensure that digital transformation supports social and economic development, expands opportunities, creates jobs, attracts investment and remains accessible in ways that genuinely benefit its people and future generations.
