Kathmandu: A photography exhibition titled “Nepal: The Seen and The Unseen” was formally inaugurated on February 22 at the prestigious Cairo Opera House in Cairo, Egypt.
Organized by the Embassy of Nepal in Cairo in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and the Cairo Opera House, the exhibition was jointly opened by Ambassador of Nepal to Egypt Sushil K. Lamsal, renowned Egyptian photographer and photojournalist Ashraf Talaat, and Chairman of the Cairo Opera House Alaa Abdel Salam, along with other distinguished guests.

In his welcome remarks, Ambassador Lamsal underscored the important role of art and culture in strengthening bilateral relations between Nepal and Egypt. He expressed appreciation to the Government of Egypt for its continued support in facilitating cultural exchanges and recalled the successful hosting of the photo exhibition “Faces of Nepal” at the Salah Taher Gallery in July last year. He expressed hope that such initiatives would provide Egyptian audiences with a deeper and more nuanced understanding of Nepal’s natural beauty, cultural richness, and social fabric.

Photographer Ashraf Talaat reflected on his experiences documenting Nepal’s vibrant culture and daily life through his lens. He noted that his work aims to capture both the visible beauty and the subtle narratives that shape Nepal’s identity. Talaat also thanked the Embassy for supporting and facilitating his visit to Nepal in January–February 2026, during which the photographs on display were taken.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by more than one hundred guests, including ambassadors, diplomats, artists, photographers, media representatives, and members of the Nepali community in Egypt.
Hosted at the Salah Taher Gallery within the Cairo Opera House, the exhibition features a compelling collection of 42 recent photographs by Ashraf Talaat, portraying the daily life and rich cultural traditions of people living in the Kathmandu Valley. The exhibition will remain open to the public until 26 February 2026.
