Kathmandu: In a landmark moment for Nepali cricket, the national team is set to face the West Indies in a historic three-match T20 International bilateral series, scheduled to take place in Sharjah, UAE, on September 27, 28, and 30, 2025.
This will be the first-ever bilateral series between Nepal and the Caribbean giants, marking a major milestone not only for the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) but for the nation’s growing cricketing ambitions on the global stage.
Organized by CAN, the series comes at a crucial time for Nepal as the team prepares for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier later this year. The matches will offer high-quality international exposure against one of the most storied and entertaining teams in world cricket.
Secretary of the Cricket Association of Nepal and the former national team captain, Paras Khadka, took to the social media platform X to praise the team’s progress and express gratitude towards West Indies Cricket Board. He writes, “We extend our sincere gratitude to the West Indies Cricket Board for graciously accommodating our request and making this historic campaign a reality and also to the Emirates Cricket Board for their continued support.”
“This marks our first step towards engaging with Test-playing nations in our ongoing quest to grow, evolve, and elevate the standard of cricket in Nepal,” Secretary Khadka adds.
Likewise, Cricket West Indies (CWI) emphasized the importance of such collaborations in strengthening the global cricketing ecosystem. CWI CEO Chris Dehring described the tour as a “celebration of the game’s expanding global footprint,” and commended Nepal’s rise as an emerging cricketing nation.
“As a full-member nation, we see it as part of our responsibility to contribute to the development of cricket beyond our borders,” said Dehring. “Supporting Nepal in this key phase of their cricketing journey not only builds the sport at grassroots and international levels but also reminds us of the deep pride and honour associated with representing our nation.”
The West Indies team is expected to field a competitive side, which will test Nepal’s skill and resilience while helping the Rhinos fine-tune their plans for the Asia Qualifiers.
In 2024, the West Indies A squad toured Nepal for an unofficial five-match T20 series from April 27 to May 4. In a hard-fought contest, the A West Indies team edged out Nepal 3–2. The competitive series — featuring five thrilling matches at Kirtipur’s TU International Cricket Ground — underscored the Nepali side’s fighting spirit and hinted at the potential they now bring to the full international stage.
