Nepal’s UN Envoy Advocates Stronger Support for LDCs at Key UN Forums

Ambassador Thapa commended the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) for its vital role in mobilizing public and private finance in LDCs.

KATHMANDU: Ambassador Lok Bahadur Thapa, Chair of the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Group and Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, actively engaged in multiple high-level events during the ongoing UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board Annual Session 2025.

In his address to the Executive Board, Ambassador Thapa commended the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) for its vital role in mobilizing public and private finance in LDCs and supporting the implementation of the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA). He called for enhanced support to the UNCDF to strengthen its impact.

Ambassador Thapa also convened an ambassador-level meeting of LDCs to discuss the progress of DPoA deliverables, preparations for the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4), and key LDC priorities in the Outcome Document. He emphasized the importance of group solidarity in advancing the LDC agenda across multilateral processes.

Similarly, Ambassador Thapa delivered a keynote speech at a special event organized by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, focusing on fostering partnerships between the UN and Bretton Woods Institutions (BWIs). He stressed the need for closer cooperation and synergy to improve development financing and promote effective multilateralism.
