Nepal Urges Stronger Global Support for LDCs and Youth-Led Agriculture at UN Forum

Kathmandu: At the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) 2025, Nepal called for greater international support to help Least Developed Countries (LDCs) achieve their development goals.

Speaking at the General Debate, Prof. Dr. Shiva Raj Adhikari, Vice Chairperson of Nepal’s National Planning Commission and Chair of the LDC Group, emphasized the need for science and evidence-based solutions, full implementation of the Sevilla Commitment, capacity building, and stronger partnerships.

He stressed that these actions are key to accelerating LDCs’ progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and delivering on the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA).

In a separate HLPF side event co-hosted by Nepal and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Ambassador Lok Bahadur Thapa highlighted the need to reimagine agri-food systems as sources of dignity, innovation, and opportunity. He stressed the importance of youth-led agriculture to create decent jobs, reduce youth migration from rural areas, and meet both food security and climate goals.
